You haven't seen this? Except for a comment near the end which describes plutonium as producing "the deadliest radiation known to man" it mostly gets the science right, and reads like an SF adventure story from the late- to mid-Fifties. The alien rocket is fusion powered, and protected from air friction by a "magnetic sheath." The movie also plays out in close to real time.
