Fed Up With Norton's

Finally gave up and uninstalled Norton's. It's been bugging for six weeks to update my subscription, which still has two weeks to go. It's also been blocking things it was specifically and repeatedly told not to block - which it didn't used to block - and hiding the flag window telling me it was blocking those things unless I granted special dispensation under everything else, so I didn't see what it was doing until I closed or minimized everything else.

Now that it's gone, I'm flooded with updates it was blocking and not even flagging me about!

No more Norton's for me!

I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's a free download, and it seems to be doing a good job.

Ah. Slight problem. But I *think* F-prot has a version for that. Can't hurt to check.

I gave up on Norton AV many years ago, for many reasons. Including the fact that if you wanted to un-quarantine a file you had to tell it where to put it. Even though it knew where it'd been before being quarantined.

That was *way* too much hassle when oit mistakenly quarantined a vital file that was many layers deep.

The Norton Utilities are still of some (limited) use, but the AV and Firewall? Not on a bet.

I use F-Prot AV. Among other things, it's cheaper (for non-commercial use, the price gets you a 5-computer site license). And it's a lot better about keeping its hands off things.

Yup, I see Moron Antivirus has not changed since I had to deal with it early in my use of computers. I considered it to be more hazardous to the computer than the viruses and deleted it years ago. I'm currently using AVG.
