Michael Update
My five year old cat, Michael, was sick a while back and lost his appetite. He also lost about four pounds over the next month. Two weeks ago the vet gave him a huge amount of subcutaneous saline and force fed him some of that cat "pudding."
That seemed to jump-start his appetite, and over the next few days he ate a great deal. However, he has since tapered off.
Just weighed him, and he's holding at nine pounds. Not gaining any back, but not losing any more, either. Besides the weighings, I feel his gut; I've noticed sometimes it's nearly empty and sometimes it has a lot in it. I know therefore that he's eating, even if I don't see it.
I'm going to keep encouraging him to eat and keep track of his weight. Maybe get a can or two of that special super-soft cat food. Right now, besides regular canned and dry food, I'm offering him pill pockets with a piece of dry cat food in them. Sometimes he'll eat one or two; sometimes he sniffs and walks away. At least I know he's eating something.
