More evidence that our health problems are more likely to be hereditary than environmental: An examination of Egyptian mummies showed they had roughly the same incidence of atherosclerosis per age group as modern Egyptians. Even Ötzi the Iceman - between 40 and 50 years of age when he died 5300 years ago - has calcium deposits in several of his arteries.
In Ötzi's case, he had two genetic anomalies known to increase the incidence of atherosclerosis in modern humans.
