Near Catastrophe

Had a bit of an adventure about an hour ago.

My toilet has been flushing reluctantly off and on for a couple of weeks. Last week I used drain cleaner and that worked for a few days. Today I poured the rest of the bottle into the toilet and did a partial flush to get most of that to the clog without pushing all of the chemical past it.

Twenty minutes later, just before I planned to flush to clear the pipes and test whether the clog was gone, I heard a splash and a thump.

I hurried into the bathroom and, sure enough, Patches was soaking wet from the belly down. (I left the lid up to remind me to flush, thinking surely there would be no trouble in that short span. I should'a put the lid down *and* closed the door...)

I rushed her into the kitchen and rinsed her with warm water as thoroughly as I could. I dried her with a dish towel, then some paper towels. She didn't like it (I have a couple of scratches from where she tried to get out of the sink) but I got the job done.

She seems to be fine, an hour later. She's not only not sick, but again lets me pet and play with her. So I seem to have gotten all or enough of the drain cleaner off.
