A Bit From Chapter One
Excerpt from a contemporary fantasy novel in progress (over 77k words):
Wanda Lafontaine mock growled as she chased her youngest around the house, pretending to be a ferocious lion. She'd been reading him some of the Oz books lately so he knew this lion was only acting fierce. He giggled and shrieked and pretended to flee in terror. With her bushy head of tawny hair she felt she made a good lion.
A wave of dizziness flowed over Wanda, and she faltered in her chase, stopping to shake her head. Everything looked different. Sounded different. Smelled different... She went off balance, falling to all fours.
The boy's eyes went wide with the realization that his Mother was no longer pretending to be a lion.
